Race for the Cure 2011!!!

For the past 10 years or so, I have been participating in Race for the Cure in honor of the women I know who have survived Breast Cancer (My Gammie – 2 time survivor, Laura Farley, Cindi Griffin). After years of participating in Race for the Cure, I decided this year I wanted to be more involved, so I joined the Teams Committee!

I was in charge of getting as many corporate teams involved around the community! I really enjoyed being more involved this year and hope to be even more involved next year!!! The race went really well and we ended up with a total of 259 teams (about 120 corporate teams).

For the second year in a row, I was also Team Captain for Ericsson! Our team was a huge success this year! We were one of the race sponsors again this year and also raised over $7500, therefore our total contribution was close to $18,000.00!!! We also had 72 participants this year and 18 volunteers! I was so proud of our team and felt so incredibly blessed to work with such awesome individuals!

A few couples from our Sunday school class also formed a team and participated! It was very exciting to see all of them out at the race!!!

We also passed out Ericsson chapsticks, which people seemed to love!
The lady (Koco) in the front is battling/surviving breast cancer right now! Such a neat lady!!!Our Sunday School Class!

Our Evening with Emory!

Last Friday night, Blake and I spent the evening babysitting Emory, our precious niece! We had so much fun and laughed so hard! Em is such a sweet little baby!

We started off the evening playing in Em’s room with all of her stuffed animals and toys (so Mom and Dad could sneak out the front door). Then we went outside to blow bubbles! She loves bubbles and has the cutest little laugh when she is trying to catch them! Emory even tried blowing bubbles herself and was successful several times!

Next, we went for a walk down the street, while Uncle Blake went to pick-up dinner! Em has the cutest little attitude (such a sassy little lady) as she walks and she stops to kiss and smell all the flowers along the way!

We ate dinner, played outside more, swung on Em’s swing, read books, and then finally put Em to bed! We put her down to go to sleep an hour after we were supposed to, but we were just having way too much fun (and we are the Aunt and Uncle, so we had to keep her up late!!!)

Blake and I realized that we are definitely not as seasoned in the baby department (and I think Em knew too!)
1. I could not figure out how to get the high chair tray to lock-in correctly. Em just sat there staring at me like, “really lady…could you hurry up the process, I am starving.”
2. The straps on Em’s swing were a little too tight on her shoulders, so Blake and I worked on each side for probably 5 minutes to try to loosen it. Emory just stared at us the whole time wondering what in the world we were doing.
3. We need to get better at putting on the pajama top. Em’s shirt would not go over her head very easily, so we had to try twice! This was the ONLY time Em cried and it was just for a split second.

Needless to say, we all had a great time! After Em went to sleep, Blake and I sat on the porch relaxing with a glass of wine.

We cannot wait for our next evening with Em!

Let's Go Mavs!!!

So…I am so far behind on my blog that I am just going to ignore the first 6 months of 2011 and go from here. To sum up the past six months for Blake and me, I think all I can say is WORK! We have both been working so much, that we really have not had that much time for anything else!

The past month or so, we have been cheering on The Dallas Mavericks in their road to the championship! After last night’s game, I have to say we are looking pretty good! We are currently leading the series 3-2!!!

Jene’s dad, Mr. David, got tickets for Jene, Billy, Blake, and I to go to Game 3 of the Finals and we were extremely excited! Unfortunately, Billy ended up breaking his ankle and needing surgery, so he was unable to go, so Jason stepped in (it was a tough decision for him, but he didn’t want to let the ticket go to waste ;)

We had an absolute blast (even though the Mavs ended up losing)! Our seats were soooo close! It was such an amazing experience and we are so grateful to have had the opportunity to experience a Finals game!!! We even had a couple celebrity sightings…Troy Aikman and Terrell Owens.

Just 1 more game, Mavs! Bring it home!!!
